The writing was beautiful. The story well researched. The characters were well rounded. I laughed. I cried. I loved.
the only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because I was able to predict the two “twist”

Wow! I didn’t think I could ever enjoy a historical fiction but this book proved me so wrong! This story about two sisters living through WWII in France was a work of art. The characters felt real and there was several times on the way to and from work where I audibly gasped from what happened in the audiobook. Even if you don’t like historical fiction, I recommend this book!!!!!

This was an amazing read but a sad one. It made me cry and reflect and learn: a nearly five star read, though a hard one at points. That being said, I do want to make note of some historical inaccuracies pointed out here. I’d need to do my own research but a number of these seem valid: https://steveclarkauthor.com/the-nightingale-a-seriously-fraud-historical-thriller/
