A little slow in the beginning, a little confused at times, but overall an enjoyable read. I love a gritty fairy tale.

An absolute grotesque visceral brutal read. I saw a lot of myself in Marlinchen, in her meek and subservient manners. In her struggle against a power she felt was all encompassing. In her desperate need to just be loved at any cost. I would not recommend to the faint of heart or stomach but definitely worth the read if you are up for it.
“But no one had told me I was allowed to scream”

A bit oversexualized but I loved the fairy tale aspects and the gothic vibes

Started off strong…got weird fast.

This book is definitely triggering (for content warnings check the authors review below or a quick google) so be warned. However, if you are able to endure this book, it is absolutely worth it. It's utterly twisted and beautifully written. Its imagery throughout completely captures the underlying themes. The romance is so beautiful. It represents trauma brilliantly and authentically. I read this entire book in one sitting because from the beginning I was completely captured and transported into the gruesome fairytale. Marlechin was a main character I immediately rooted for, loved, and at times related to. I can't wait to read what Ava Reid writes next!

This is my second book by Ava Reid and a liked it, but not as much as I thought.
I enjoyed Reid’s writing style a lot and her characters, but the plot has a couple holes that are annoying. The story itself is beautiful and the narration is amazing, but there’s a few things mentioned by the protagonist that are never touched on afterwards.
This could have easily made it a higher rating if there were so many details left untouched after being announced.
