I was recommended this book series by an older family friend, with the preface that it follows the famous Merlin throughout his lifetime. What was contained in the pages of this book was vastly different than what I imagined. While the pace was incredibly slow for over half of the book, I thoroughly enjoyed Mary Stewart’s writing style and ability to tell the complex story of Merlin’s life from age seven to the beginning of Arthur, and was hooked till the very end. I slowly became attached to Merlin as he grew up, along with the other minor figures tied to his story specifically the trusted figures in his life. This was an unexpected book that I actually enjoyed, specifically learning more about the history of the legend of Merlin (again through the amazing work of Mary Stewart) and am looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds in the upcoming books.
