hard to read at times, but such a powerful story.

WOW! A girl is date raped but there's a misunderstanding that leaves the rest of the student body blaming her for something else. Consequently she doesn't speak about the incident. Slowly she becomes more withdrawn- and no one sees it, which only silences her more. An amazing book. I would recommend all parents and adults who work with children read this book. Very well written.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a poignant and powerful novel about Melinda, a high school student who becomes an outcast after a traumatic event that she can't bring herself to speak about. The book explores themes of silence, trauma, and finding one's voice. Melinda’s emotional journey is raw and relatable, capturing the struggle to heal and reclaim power after experiencing something deeply painful. Anderson’s writing is compelling, and the way Melinda slowly finds her voice is both heartbreaking and inspiring. It’s a tough but important read, especially for young adults, and serves as a reminder of the strength it takes to speak out and heal. Highly recommend!

“Think about love, or hate, or joy, or rage whatever makes you feel something, makes your palms sweat or your toes curl. Focus on that feeling. When people don't express themselves, they die one piece at a time. You'd be shocked at how many adults are really dead inside walking through their days with no idea who they are…”

i’m literally speechless right now (no pun intended); actual rtc once i wrap my mind around this all

All the books by this author sound so good and has great potential to be great stories yet I am always disappointed. This story is bland, depressing and the characters are uninteresting and already been written about. This story is not unique but did entertain.
