this was a wild ride so let’s get into it
First off, the writing is absolutely terrible. Now i don’t know if the french translator or margaret rogerson is to blame but one of them messed up BAD. I cringed approximately 10 times while reading this, definitely too much.
Then, regarding the plot, the first half had me flat out bored. How can a book be possibly so badly paced ?? I am speechless.
Anyways I have to say, as soon as they get to the spring court, it is fire. I really enjoyed reading from here on out, it was fast paced, funny and interesting.
Now is it worth the read ? No, i don’t think so.

The book has the merit to have a quite good writing style, especially regarding the descriptions. The author knows how to give a nice twists to her fantasy elements, I haven’t read anything like that. The vibe is very whimsical and magical while being intriguing and sometimes strange and unsettling.

The strong point of the book for me was the fact that Margaret Rogerson writes her fae as faes are supposed to be in fairytales. Unhuman, cold, cruel, unattractive. Her writing style that dares to be unsettling is what raised my rating to 3 stars.

The interactions between Rook and Isobel were quite interesting and meaningful during their journey in the forest.

However, the story was at times quite long and lagging, especially towards the end. The resolution was a little bit anticlimactic for my taste.

After a long reading slump, this is the book that brought me back. Rook was the perfect black cat to Isobel's golden retriever. I appreciated aspects to the fae that Margaret brought to life, such as the inability to lie and the flaws in their glamours. The characters were well fleshed out, and the romance was perfect. It was such an easy read, and I literally found myself unable to put it down, gobbling it up in just two days. It was perfectly paced for a stand-alone book, and while the pacing was weird at times, it read beautifully as a whole. It was such a cute, banter-filled, light, romantasy book (AKA just what I needed!).
