My favorite Hemingway book that I’ve read. Takes a topic as vast as “War” and brings it down to a human level. Dialogue and characters were brilliant.

This book is obviously hugely moving and insightful (not to mention gripping) but, predictably for Hemingway, the love story and the writing of Maria takes me out of it every time she’s mentioned because it’s so absolutely awful

A great book. It’s obvious it’s one of the great classics of American literature. I love how Hemingway uses language that makes it clear that the whole book is meant in Spanish except for internal dialogue and has been “translated” for the reader. Really some of the best prose I’ve ever read.
