Weird book, the plot was okay but felt incomplete in a way. Entretaining but not enough to keep reading the next one.

I finished it but only by skipping ahead a lot. No twists or turns in this. The synopsis tells you the whole story pretty much which made it a boring read.

I’ve read only one other story by this author - Gravity - and thought I’d give this one a whirl.

It is... different. It is mainly female lead POV with some male lead sections. It is well written and edited.

I’m genuinely not sure how I feel about it. Many of the character interactions seemed just slightly misaligned with what I was expecting. They weren’t bad, just different.

The world the author has created is clever and the characters definitely fight for their HEA. There are several other characters that I’m curious about.

Definitely interesting but probably won’t be to everyone’s taste

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Call of Water by Marina Simcoe is the first book in the Madame Tan's Freakshow series. Ivy meets Zeph at a show and is immediately entranced by him. After an amazing night together, Zeph disappears. A year later Ivy sees him again at a freakshow. But Zeph does not look like Zeph anymore and he does not recognize her. Ivy is thrown into a new world that is far more dangerous than the human world.

This book was an okay book. The plot was not too bad. However, the characters were sometimes a bit weird. Zeph is quite old and seems to have not a lot of general knowledge. He seemed a little dumb too me, especially when he knew he had to be careful in general. I would have loved to learn more about all of the main characters' background. I know that there are other books in this series that delve into that, but I had the feeling that something was missing from the story. But I liked to experience a new world. We had different creatures, which was exciting.

The book was okay. There were some steamy scenes and action scenes. I will not read other books in this series as I am not too intrigued but, I liked this one.

I've been on the search for siren romance and this was a freebie during farofeb. And it wasn't quite what I was hoping for.

We have this beautiful singer of a siren that is Zeph who has an instant connection with Ivy. They have a memorable night together which promised more only for Zeph to be captured and Ivy wondering if she read their situation all wrong.

There wasn't a ton of romance in this and I was left wondering if there were more sirens out there in the world. Would have loved a bit more development on the siren world. And just more time for Ivy and Zeph to be together.
