Spice Rating: 🌶️ / 5

My Summary: Kai and Paedyn are finally back in Ilya, but the pair still have many obstacles to overcome. Paedyn has a huge decision to make--does she choose love for herself? Or does she sacrifice her happiness for the good of the entire kingdom? But first, Paedyn will have to face trials and challenges more difficult than she's ever gone through before.

My Thoughts: Being the third book in this trilogy, Fearless does a decent job wrapping up Paedyn's, Kai's, and Kitt's stories. Book two, Reckless, left readers on a hell of a cliffhanger, and a majority of this book leaves you in suspense waiting to see what Paedyn will choose--her own happiness or the good of the kingdom.

My main disappointment is that we found out some interesting information towards the end of the book that we didn't really get to see the ramifications from.
I wanted to know more about how Kitt recreated the Plague and how the foreign queen was able to stop its spread after Paedyn had unknowingly delivered it to their doorstep through the roses.
It just felt like we skipped over that part and were just supposed to believe it was solved through ✨magic.✨

Overall, Fearless was a lot of fun. You get plenty of banter and tension between Kai and Paedyn along with exciting action sequences. The stakes are higher than ever, and though the payoff is bittersweet, I am happy with the way it ended.

This series just went downhill from the first book. Kai and Pae's banter/prose was enjoyable but also got repetitive with similar phrasing and not a lot of true tension or conflict (lots of avoidance). While there was a plot happening, it felt much lower stakes than it should have and like the solutions were not as difficult as was alluded to. The trials themselves made no sense in their purpose. It really felt like nothing happened with these characters for 80% of the book. The one big tragedy that happened before the 80% mark ended up being a fake that was revealed in the very next chapter, so it wasn't satisfying. There were so many plot holes that just easily explained things away. The twists and turns at the end were so convoluted and unnecessary, and while I didn't guess the twists I saw the overall outcome from a mile away. Kitt's characterization from the second book didn't match this book for about 80% of it, so the sudden switch in his character back to crazy Kitt was incongruous with how his character was portrayed for most of this book. His epilogue was weird and unnecessary, like it was meant as a consolation for the people sad about how his story ended. Also, they mentioned Adena SO MANY TIMES!!! I don't remember that happening in the second book, but it got really old. Also... is Blair dead or no? Ugh this book was fast paced and mostly enjoyable as far as prose goes, but the actual storytelling and writing was not good.

Thank you Simon Teen for the gifted copy and to Simon Audio for the ALC. All opinions are my own.

What it's about:
This book picks up right where book two left off. It's full of secrets, betrayals, and heartbreaking moments. There's also a new POV added to this story. Backstories are explored as well.

What I thought:
Wow, this book had my emotions all over the place. I loved it, but I also had to stop reading sometimes because of how upset the story would make me. I loved that it wasn't predictable, and I enjoyed the romance.

🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: I loved these narrators and thought this format worked well for this book.
