My son and I read this book together, it was perfect!  An environmentally-themed book with a happy ending!

The elephant seals have made a comeback from near extinction due to overhunting.  This book discusses what we know about their migration, molting, and reproductive patterns... everything that makes an elephant seal an elephant seal.  It's informative without being so detailed you might get bored; the pictures are beautiful; and it talks about human impacts on the seal population without getting either hopeless or glossing over the poor choices we have made.

Age appropriate for my eleven+year-old.

This would be a fantastic report resource or extension for studying marine biology and/or extinction. It was well laid out, contained relevant information, and had good quality photos for emphasis and interest.
