This book... where do I begin? It took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and it was written perfectly.

my only critique is that I got very confused with the then and now at certain points which could very well be my own fault

It was such a cute little YA book about friendships, more about relationships. Even though it's for a younger audience, I feel this book has some great points and I loved the writing. Most YA authors can be a little too on the nose with their comparisons/metaphors, but I think she did a great job. The Shakespeare was a nice touch. A nice quick read.

This was a good book

But at the same time, from the very start, I felt like Cleo was acting jealous if Layla even spoke to another person. You can be supportive of your friends and them acquiring new friends growing up.
I feel like Cleo just clung to Layla like she was her only friend. I get that they were best friends, but she acted like they were allowed to only be friends with each other.

When the girls were talking about Cleo, she could have went about telling Layla in a better way, letting her know that she was hurt, instead of being a jerk about it.

When Cleo said those things to Layla about getting the part in the musical, my blood was boiling. How can you claim to be best friends with someone and say such terrible things to them. Not ok.

I'm not saying Layla was the golden girl in this whole book. She could have included Cleo more often when becoming friends with the chorus girls. Or set clear boundaries instead of just blowing her off.

I do like how Cleo started to grow up and went maturely into new friendships realizing that they can't be all about her and one sided.

I like how she closed out her moving on with the monolog understanding that they just out grew each other.

I honestly think she is a much better Cleo in her new friend circle.

A great YA that centers girl friendship. I love how it’s about a friendship break up. There’s not enough of that. High school is such a fraught time and I think this book really nails it.
