this is honestly YA at its best. suddenly i was 15 again and devastated that my best friend wanted nothing to do with me anymore. i loved the new york in this book, the casual but intentional diversity, the focus on friendship/familial relationships with a fun hint of romantic.

This book had me in my feels from start to finish. It's such an honest story on what it's like to lose one of the closest people to you, and on what it's like to pick up the pieces after you both fall apart. I related to so much of this story as it's similar to my own personal experiences.

The characters were so relatable and Dom, my baby boy. As soon as I found out that he likes cats and literature, *inhales*, I was signing the adoption papers

All in all this is a beautifully told story that I will be recommending for years to come.

I loved the narrative, but the main character was so unlikable. I didn't like being in her head the entire time.

Oof, this friend break-up in nonlinear slow motion got me good. Woodfolk has the uncanny knack of making every misunderstanding, every mistake, every slight and recrimination—seem perfectly understandable in the moment. Cleo, Layla, and all the supporting characters were so complex, with such authentic psychologies. Maybe Cleo could quote Shakespeare a little too easily, but I'll let it slide cuz, among other things, WHEN YOU WERE EVERYTHING made English class look dumb cool. And, yes, Dom was a beyond dreamy love interest for Cleo. Few books focus so fully on friendship; this is invaluable YA, not to mention the kind of book I know will fly off my classroom shelf and from hand to hand.
