“And aren’t we all a little bit in love with our best friends?”
MY. HEART. This book absolutely devastated me and I adored it. Still thinking about how beautifully loss and grief in friendship was portrayed. So this book…it had me from the title, the first line, my first introduction to Cleo. Cleo and Layla are best friends, until one day they’re not. Why? Using flashbacks from then and scenes from the now, the mystery of how a friendship unraveled is carefully revealed.
Never a dull moment, I stayed up way too late to read the ending. While this is a story about grief and loss, there are so many moments of joy and the beginning of new friendships. This book feels so real and raw, with every sentence a delicately crafted piece of art. If you’ve ever found yourself grieving a lost friendship, you’ll be able to relate to Cleo and her journey. I would seriously recommend this book for anyone, whatever age you are. Also, there’s great stuttering rep (which I normally don’t see enough of in YA).
Woodfolk writes complex and relatable friendship, heartbreak, grieving, and ultimately healing. Please go read this and then we can talk about how incredible it is! I know that it’s one I’ll be rereading, recommending, and thinking about for a long time. So don’t miss out and go grab a copy of this beautifully devastating book!!

Cleo is such a complicated, sincere voice. She makes good choices and bad choices, hurts people and gets hurt. Such a wonderful protagonist for this sort of story.
Romance takes a back seat in this story, but it feels inviting and well earned when it does happen. This is a story about friendship and the romance we see feels like an extension of that theme.
I felt like I knew these characters so well, I’m sad to say goodbye to them!!

I've been a couple times in Cleo's shoes and damn damn damn, I could relate so much to everything she felt in regards to the friendship and its... death. Even if it hurt reading at times, I also found solace in it - because to have written about this so so so well, you have to have experienced it.
My lack of self-control when it comes to buying books struck gold yet again.

A spectacular read following two girls who used to be best friends. This book is for anyone who needs a good cry and to find that life doesn't end when your best friend has changed into a completely different person.
Picked this up on a whim and it was so great!
This book was soo good. The perfect story of friendship and what it means to lose ones that mean everything to you and how you have to move on and sometimes leave those feelings in the past. Cleo and Layla's story is something everyone should read.
