Reminds me of a old-school romcoms! I like the vibe of this better than the 2nd book.

Can’t lie start of this book I didn’t really like Liz but as the story moved along I learned to enjoy her even though she could be frustrating. The story was super cute and honestly nothing beats a rom-com book.
3.5 stars
This was a fun, light-hearted romcom. I loved Wes, he was a likeable character and the banter between Liz and Wes was pretty entertaining. Helena, Liz's stepmother, was iconic and one of my favourite characters in the book. She's been compared to Lorelai Gilmore, and honestly I see it; they're both quite similar. I also liked the romcom quotes at the beginning of each chapter, that was a nice touch.
There were plenty of adorable moments, like the prom scene at the end where Liz and Wes finally get together (I was rooting for them so hard) and the little "dates" they had, including the Miss Congeniality watching part which was pretty fun.
However there were certain things I didn't enjoy very much. Liz was annoying through most of the book. She was rude to Helena, who was kind and supportive, for no particular reason. They did reconcile at the end, which is great, but I still had to go through like 15 chapters of Liz's internal monologue about how Helena was nothing like her mother, and so on. The Laney hate was so weird. Liz hated Laney for being mean when they were literal kids and for having a caring mother? Laney honestly seemed like a pretty good person and definitely not the monster Liz portrayed her to be. I also wish Joss and Liz's friendship was developed more, it kind of felt like an afterthought.
I'm not a huge romance fan so I might be a bit biased but I felt that the story was too long. I didn't need 350 pages for Liz to finally realize her feelings for Wes. The middle part kind of dragged on.
Nonetheless it was pretty enjoyable and I'd recommend it if you were looking for a cute romcom.
