Found this book in the perfect time. Helped me so much to navigate my relationship with work/job in general. Thankful for this book.

I was very disappointed by this book considering how much press it's gotten. The author must be better at marketing than at writing. I was expecting a study on how you can be satisfied with a normal job while avoiding the trap of workaholism and always chasing the next carrot. Instead, the book was a series of stories all of which followed the same pattern:

1. Person was obsessed with their work
2. Person ran into obstacle
3. Person exited their job and took a sabbatical or created their own new role

The book isn't helpful for the millions of people who work for companies under less-than-ideal circumstances but don't have the financial freedom to leave their job. I wish someone would write that book.

We all know it, but it’s reassuring to hear other people going through the same burnt out. Capitalism is not sustainable. I definitely learned that I worshipped work, that’s why I care too much about work and I let it define my worth.

A good book to read again and again when you’re burnt out just to be reminded to step back. There’s no prescriptive solution, just a collection of good reminders of what we can do to minimize the grind of capitalism

Interesting approach on life goals... and a reminder that work needs to work for us vs we need to live for work.

A thought provoking read centered around creating your identity outside of work told through stories of career successful individuals realizing they aren’t fulfilled being a slave to their jobs. It wasn’t a how-to guide, but it definitely offered plenty of examples of people that realized they were losing their true selves in the rat race and how they got out of it.
