Many other reviews for this book are confusing to me and, I have to assume, written by non-horror movie lovers. This has very similar vibes to Insidious to me, and that's a big compliment. Actually quite scary throughout.
Sad ending I was dreading, but appropriate for the story and basically what the pacing was preparing us for.
I was really worried about the five-year-old perspective, but it worked for me!

I'm writing this review for myself more than anyone else.
To my future self, if you find yourself looking up this book again out of a desire to give it a second chance: DO NOT. You hated this immensely. It has a number of tropes you despise and are incredibly sick of in horror, chief among them "everything happening because of a cheating spouse" and "death of a child".
Don't bother with it. You hated it, so do yourself a favor and don't waste your time.

Points for a couple good scares, but at least 25% of the latter half of the book didn’t progress the plot at all? Every adult character in the book was overly talkative, talked in circles about things no one in their right mind would talk to a child about, and was so unbearable that I found myself hoping they would die in the next supernatural incident.

Brave to attempt a kid narrated horror story, but another unfortunate case of authors being bad at writing kids. Finished for the sake of finishing.
