“It’s because there’s joy to be found in carrying on.” -Some review

A very melancholy meditation on connectedness in nature. Moving, sad, did bring me to tears. Lightly beautiful but not breathtaking. Lyrical. A little boring; it wandered around in a mood but never made much of a concerted point. I might have DNF’d if it weren’t so short. The spare style and brief length was much better than something like Overstory, which I could barely start.
The father’s death (?of tetanus) was very predictable. I did not enjoy the descriptions of animal death.

I haven't read a story as gentle as this one in such a long time.

So many stories of the tail end of humanity focus on the brutality of loss and the end of society. This one doesn't. This replaces the hopelessness and betrayal of those stories with the quiet beauty of small moments together at the end. It's not a fizzle or a bang, we end with a content sigh.

The love between the father and daughter in this book brought me so many mixed emotions of sorrow and hope. Even when I knew where the story was headed I couldn't help but be glad we've all had a little time together, even if it's not for forever.

This is a wonderful book for anyone on their own journey through grief.

Really beautiful story with clear writing. It is a post-apocalyptic speculative fiction novella based in fabulism, rather than fantasy proper. It is not science fiction.

This book was sad, then it got sadder, and then it was the saddest.  As a middle grade read it’s intense. It reminds me of like On the Road but for kids? The end of the world and it’s just this girl and her dad. There’s so much we never learn and that was hard for me. I felt the loneliness and sadness and it was almost too much to get through to finish and enjoy the book.
