This one was a bit lengthy, but has an excellent plot.
The book talks about a painter-a fanatic one, who has a lunatic plan of creating Azoth - a perfect woman. He would achieve this by using body parts of his own virgin daughters.
And he does!
Or does he?
Azoth is created, but the painter is dead before she is created and no one knows the location. 40 years have passed and many detectives have been fascinated by the case and wants to solve the mystery. Only, that this case reaches Astrologer/detective - Kiyoshi Mitarai and Ishioka -his friend( the narrator )who takes up the challenge to solve this within a week. This begins the start of Holmes-Watson type of case solving, but with slight difference
Will he?
The climax reveals all.
The book has a fine story-telling and if you love simple mysteries, that keeps your mind thinking, this one will be a treat. The only caveat is trying to cope up with the Japanese names of people and places. I have observed one thing-the Japanese authors loves to fill their story with many characters. Hope, someday, I will start getting used to the names.
The translation is good and so is the plot.
Will be reading more of this author.

An interesting set up for the mystery, but somehow did not feel so satisfying! The characters were fun though
