The phrase “quiet explosion” on the book’s cover perfectly describes it. Beautifully written and with suspense and real concern for the well-drawn characters. I stretched it out to enjoy it slowly.
This book profoundly lacks individuality. I wish i didn't finish it

Plotwise, this is not really my type, but this was also part of my course reading for this semester's English class, and I think it fit in really well with our course themes, I enjoyed the discussions. Mozley has a really beautiful writing style, and I enjoyed her attention to physicality and the way she explores violence as a theme throughout the novel.

I cannot wait for more from Fiona Mozley. This book enthralled me, and the representation of Yorkshire dialect was also a joy to read and appreciate.
Utterly grim. Utterly compelling. Not for the faint of heart.

This book is beautifully written. The language used to describe the setting is effective and vivid. I loved the back to basics/escape to the wilderness side of the story and found the ideas of fairness and rights interesting. A lot of ideas were also implied rather than explicit and described in detail which I found refreshing. I also oved the open ending of Daniel still searching for Cathy. The only reason I haven't rated the book 5 stars is due to the ending feeling a bit rushed. The author spent many chapters building the story slowly and then wrapped it all up in one action packed scene.

the writing style was beautiful, i love how it felt like listening to a story being told by your grandpa, only instead of a sugarcoated ending, their reality. i love how their was a lot of emphasis on the characters and their relationships, emotions, experiences and more. it was like getting to know a friend.
