For anyone new to this authors books, Your Deepest Fear is a novel in the DS Nathan Cody crime series. It does read well as a standalone but I reckon you will be rushing off to buy the others after this one, which are just as fantastic believe me!
The author gives us a great mix of the case that Cody is working on as well as more closer to home, involving what happened to Cody in the past. I loved reading both threads, especially the one to do with what happened to Cody previously leaving him to be the damaged man he is today. I really makes for some gripping reading.
I loved Sara’s character in the story. There is just something about a strong female role that really appeals. Maybe it’s because a little bit of me would love to be like her. She really is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her determination.
Your Deepest Fear is a great addition to the already brilliant series. A lot of the story focuses on Cody, of which fans are going to love. There was a hint of humour in places and I particularly loved the scene in the shoe shop. It’s hard to really delve into this story without giving to much away, but, this is yet another twisted, thrill of a read that will have you pounding through the pages. Dark and oh so chilling. Loved it!

This book grips you from the moment you start reading. The book is just over 300 pages long, which you could easily finish in a day.
I did feel I was missing out on a storyline as I think this must be the second book. There was a number of references to a case, without much background information.
The book is a real page turner as there is always something happening and a new development with both of the main characters.
The chapters are nice and short, which helps to keep the tense and the drama of this book, which I loved. There were times I could t believe what was happening and worried there wasn't enough pages.

This is a story about a Detective Sergeant who has some personal issues and a woman who’s husband is murdered. They both have the same goal but are going about it different ways. There is a back story and a third party and it makes for a great story.
I would give this a 3.5/5. It was a good read. I read Don’t Make a Sound by David Jackson and loved it. I really enjoyed this but it was not as good as the last one. There was just something missing.

Having read "Don't Make A Sound" last year and really enjoyed, I was looking forward to the next in the DS Nathan Cody series "Your Deepest Fear". Although this can be read as a standalone without any problems, it would probably be best to read at least one of the previous three, as you'll understand Cody so much more personally. You'll also appreciate how he has ended up on the brink of a mental breakdown, hellbent on retribution. Either way the author covers just the right amount of back story to refresh the reader regarding past events, without having to trawl through pages of repeated information.

The narrative is told from Sara and Cody's part in the story and I enjoyed how the two eventually came together in a very tense and exciting denouement. I was a little disappointed and didn't feel it fit with their described persona, as to how one of the characters that was involved in the story was revealed to have played a part in the denouement but that's just my opinion. However, the execution of the conclusion was expertly done and I was sitting on tenterhooks as it unfolded. The baddie 'Waldo' was a really frightening character and a very inventive one. In fact all of the characters had depth and I particularly liked Sara and saw her at one point a potential main protagonist for a separate series.
I did worry that the story would take Cody down the path of woeful self destruction and in a way it did but not in a run of the mill 'poor me' way. It was thoroughly understandable and justifiable and played an important part regarding the people involved in one of his earlier undercover cases, when he was brutally tortured and witnessed a sadistic and horrendous murder.
This is a quite a dark and shocking cat and mouse thriller and if you have a fear of clowns this may well not be for you. I thought it a brilliant read - although not quite up to the standards of "Don't Make A Sound" - but David Jackson is a fabulous and imaginative author and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend "Your Deepest Fear" to all crime readers.

For a long time I didn't read any thrillers and this one put me back on track! David Jackson definitely knows how to catch the readers attention.
Right from the beginning there is a brutal murder. I was hooked from the moment I read about this death. I just wanted to know more! It's the kind of book that you just want to keep reading because is has always a fast pace flow and it has always something interesting happening. The characters in this story are also very interesting! Normally I don't feel this way when reading thrillers. They are boring and dull sometimes. I would say three of the main characters of this book have really unique personalities and have a captivating past. Cody and Sara both have strong stories that make the reader interested about them, and that makes the story stand out from the typical investigation trope.
This book is not a 5 star read because it could be a lot more developed and I would love to read more details.
Overall it was a fun read and a book that I will recommend to people who love this genre.

This is book 4 in the Nathan Cody series and while I'm sure it could be read as a standalone, there is lot of backstory to the events here that would be better served if you read the first 3 before this (and they are also very good!)
When a man is found murdered in a very gruesome way, DS Cody and his team are given the case. With the man's wife taking certain matters into her own hands and Cody also dealing with his clown situation, this was never going to be a straightforward case.
This was another gripping, intense tale for our favourite, slightly damaged DS and I honestly can't wait for the next one!

I’m a huge fan of the DS Nathan Cody series, and when I saw that there was a new installment I was thrilled! It felt like I had been waiting for AGES for it, but it was definitely worth it!
Your Deepest Fear sees Cody investigating a murder where the bereaved wife is displaying rather unusual tendencies. Not upset when she should be, and quite secretive at times. This leads Cody to thinking there is more than meets the eye with Sara. The reader gets glimpses into Sara’s train of thought, and as she becomes almost vigilante-like in her quest for justice for her murdered husband, even Cody is pulled into it unknowingly.
Parallel to this, and I’m mindful of spoilers here, Cody has his own problems. Issues in his past have led him to experience some emotional turmoil, and he’s still feeling the effects. Terrifyingly, his past is coming back to haunt him in a big way in Your Deepest Fear.
I’ve never seen him as vulnerable as he is in this book, and it works really well. You get a deeper insight into how his mind is working almost overtime to keep on top of everything and processing what’s happening around him in this book.
Your Deepest Fear is a supremely satisfying thriller. It gives you the creeps, pulls you in immediately and doesn’t let you go until the bitter end. It is clever, dark and downright scary.

I really appreaciate how David Jackson has managed to up the stakes with each book in this series, and I really hope he continues with this series in the future. The only thing stopping me from giving a higher rating is that I'm not sure how I feel about the way the female characters are portrayed (nagging, overly protective of DS Cody, a bit obsessed with him, etc.), and I really hope that these depictions will be improved upon in any potential future books
Your Deepest Fear is the fourth psychological thriller in the DS Nathan Cody series, and what a cracking read it is. It's a long time since I've read a thriller so addictive and intensely gripping the I ended up taking the phone off the hook and ignoring my life for the nail-biting couple of hours I spent enjoying it. It has a dark, disturbing plot with a truly brutal murder and a wonderful mystery about it which stems from the curious message left on the answering machine.
Although part of a (fantastic) series each of these instalments can be read as a standalone as you learn enough information about the recurring characters to understand them nicely. The cast and the story are deepened with every turn of the page and given the number of shocking, exhilarating and truly gobsmacking reveals throughout this is a must-read for crime, mystery, thriller and psychological suspense fans.
