Marlowe gets wind of the possibility of recovering two pearls that were robbed and lost. The chase is on and all manner of noir things happen. The final hiding place is unusual.

I read a biligual copy. The translator of the Czech version is FrantiĊĦek Jungwirth.

Well-crafted but predictable.

I like the noir detective aesthetic, but haven't always enjoyed it as much in fiction. This short story had all the classic tropes, and I imagine would look great on screen, but still didn't capture my imagination all that much. The idea behind the goldfish was a great ending though.
