Solid read that manages to avoid a lot of vampire romance tropes that I'm not a fan of. Romance worked for me, the author knew how to make it a balanced partnership. On the fence about how mental illness was treated, it was treated with some compassion... but also the mentally ill people in the story were murderous and/or a burden on their family. BUT it still wasn't treated as a moral failing and, for the non-villain, it was very much presented as "having a mental illness doesn't make a person unworthy". I also appreciated the portrayal of caretaker fatigue and the way it was written made the iffy mental illness portrayal less detrimental.
Graphic: Gore and Blood
Moderate: Child death, Mental illness, Grief, Death of parent, and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Homophobia
