the perfect read for winter, very atmospheric. a pretty basic plot line but that makes sense for the age of the book (published in 2009). i am glad for the ending but not enough to keep reading the series

I enjoyed The Raven Cycle books by Stiefvater, but this book was an absolute bail by 15%. It had all the qualities of YA lit that I hated as a teen, the same qualities that made me avoid Twilight. If you like werewolves and romance and don't mind teen drama that makes no sense, horrible friends that are supposed to be childhood best friends (???), weird responses, unexplained obsessive attraction, and awkward descriptions, pick this one!

I love this book! I’ve never been one for the werewolf tropes, but Stiefvater handled it in a way I haven’t read. I love the main characters!!

This review is totally biased. I read this book in middle school and I absolutely fell in love, so it's my comfort series. Is it objectively bad? Maybe, but it holds a place in my heart, just like Twilight. There was nothing more I wanted to do than avoid my problems and disappear into the golden wood like Grace. I mean... who wouldn't want a hot werewolf boyfriend to show up at your door? I love the imagery and prose, to be honest. I love the way the wolves communicate through mind pictures, and I thought their shape shifting being triggered by the heat was unique.
