This was such a pain to get through! I had to put it down 3 times until I finally cared about Fric. Corky, what is his motive outside of being an anarchist? How do you go from flooding public bathrooms to kidnapping and torture? Tell me the story of the character, not just that they exist and are here to raise hell. The cop talk is out dated for today's audience, which you can probably predict, I can handle only so many blow up sex doll and dead blonde in the lake stories. I was genuinely exited to read from Koonz, but he's a worse version of Stephen King.

3.5 stars!

Not one of my favorite Koontz’s but still a good one!

The plot moved quickly for me, which was a definite plus. It kept me captivated and reading!

I think the main think I didn’t like was the Corky character. I found myself eventually rolling my eyes when he would say “chaos is on my side” or the like because it seemed to be all he thought or talked about.

Besides that, I liked all of the other characters.

Would recommend this one but probably wouldn’t read it again!

Read better ones from Koontz. At times I had a feeling it was an early book of his (i.e. he seemed to close threads / justify events awkwardly). Still, a nice way to spend some free time.

The story was all over the place and it took a until the last 100 pages to settle down enough to flow. I normally like Koontz books, but to me this one was hard to read. I didn't get the level of suspense and terror that I'm used to from reading his works.

Channing Manheim is one of Hollywood’s top grossing stars and is famous all over the world. Ethan Truman is an ex-cop who is in charge of security on Manheim’s estate. Recently, mysterious black boxes filled with strange objects have been arriving at the estate and Truman has been racking his brain trying to figure out the meaning of their contents. He knows that they are implying some sort of threat but he can’t seem to untangle the mystery. Eventually, with the help of some supernatural force, Ethan realizes that there is a killer on the loose who is out to kidnap Manheim’s son Fric. Running out of time, Ethan, along with cop friend Hazard, need to find out who is behind the threats before it is too late.

I love all of Koontz’s books. I have yet to read one that has disappointed me. This book tied in a ton of suspense with a nice touch of the supernatural with the dead body of Ethan’s old friend Dunny helping out in the strangest of times. It was a good book that kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend it.

Not really thrilling but refreshingly suspenseful. This is one of the best Koontz novels I've read in quite some time.
