I loved the beginning of this book. However, I do not understand what happened near the end. There was so much potential, and I considered this at least a 4-star book until the final 2 days of the caraval and the day after it. After that, the book took a nose dive. It tried too hard to have an interesting twist by adding too many nonsensical twists. Like, an unnecessary amount of twist done not great. I really wanted to like this book by the end, but I just can't.

I was lied to, I saw things that weren’t even real, and I was forced to believe it was all a happy ending but, no. “It’s just a game” only applies to its actors, but its players suffer true consequences and Tella, the mastermind behind the troubles her sister and her new lover had faced, is no exception. I am literally SHOOK. I NEED to know what Tella bargained for, I need to know where their mother went, I need to know what this game really is.

Very interesting concept and world building. There was just something about the plot that it was too slow. It built up nicely at the end but took a while to get there.

To be honest, the story kind of runs away from you. I lost the plot a little bit and even more so in the next book. But the characters are cute, even though their decisions are...interesting. Overall an okay book! I really think this book is more so just for vibes!

This is totally YA for a reason. The main character is painfully immature.

The final ~15% of this was really fucked up. Like serious psychological trauma.

This book is like 80% telling and only 20% showing. The MC kinda just walks up on situations and people recount it all. There weren’t really game-like challenges or carnival ambiance.
