I loved the first 2/3 of the book.
Then, there came the plot twist. And I lost it. It made me lose interest.
So, the book was great, I finished it, but the ending was just not it for me. Too predictable, like I really saw this coming from the start, but I just hoped I was wrong. Turns out, I wasn’t.
Still, the characters were good, and this little girl was adorable.

I couldn’t resist this book… age gap, small town romance, AND she’s the nanny. This was my first book by Corinne Michaels and it is not my last. The love Asher has for his deaf daughter (I LOVE the ASL inclusion so much) is heart warming. The character development is amazing. I simply could not put this book down. There was only one character in this book that I didn’t like and you will figure it out when reading. Otherwise all of the characters were amazing, the plot was perfect, and the spice in it was great. I cannot wait to read more by Corinne!!

Asher Whitlock is my first Daddy of 2024 and it will stay up the list for a while. He’s grumpy AF, but he’s such an amazing father and brother to all of his siblings. As a typical oldest sibling, he’s got a lot of responsibility and rarely had any fun, until Phoebe comes around. There are so many factors that should stop him from wanting Phoebe, but we know in the end nothing can stop him. I’m glad there’s no OW drama with Liv’s mom Sara, their co-parenting arrangement is cool, and their scenes together are hilarious too!

Phoebe is just so funny and witty, everything she says just cracks me up, just as Asher said, her mouth is trouble. I love how she loves and fiercely protective towards Olivia and their friendship is beautiful. What happened to her is horrific but relatable, she’s young and very vulnerable, and the only thing I wish is more damage done to that jerk to satisfy my anger, seriously Jonathan is a piece of shit. Their relationship is slow-burn and full of push and pull because the hesitation comes from both sides. And all of their banter at the beginning? Top tier, so funny, especially that scene at the grocery store, I was laughing my ass off🤣

I enjoyed this read so much, I was in a slump and just could not commit to a full-length book, but I decided to pick this up for the first read of 2024, and it did not disappoint! At this point, I will pick up every small-town single dad x nanny romance and I will be a happy girl. It has now cemented its place as my Ride or Die trope, and written by Corrine Michaels? AMAZING! She and Melanie Harlow wrote the best small-town romance and this one just gives everything I love in this genre. The only thing that stops me from giving this book Infinity Stars despite not having a third-act breakup is the third-act conflict, I had a really hard time accepting that last-minute twist initially. But Asher’s reaction was everything I would ever hope for and I recommend this to everyone who loves this trope.

This book was so good! Loved every minute of it!
Ughhhhh. The first 70% was hot, tense, fun, flirty. Like it was riding a solid 4-star level. And that’s even with me excusing some rather cheesy dialogue and kinda side-eye-y moments.
But then the PLOT TWIST. The freaking plot twist happened and it changed EVERYTHING. The entire dynamic of the book shifted!! And not for the better!! Gawddddd, it felt so forced! I was immediately disinterested. Nope. That was wholeheartedly unnecessary.
So basically I skim-read the last 30%. I am grumpy. And disappointed. And who approved this?!

Is it hot in here?
I am so glad this book was recommended to me. It was funny, sweet and best of all, SPICY! I absolutely fell in love with the characters, and felt what they were feeling at times. I highly recommend this read and can't wait to read the next in the series!

I am a total sucker for a single dad/ nanny romance. Throw in a small town and local sheriff I am even more in love! While I love and adored Asher and Phoebe, I won't lie and say I was in love with Olivia from page one. This girl is so sweet, spunky and she made the book! Sometimes with single parent romances the kids are an after thought, even with a nanny romance. Not with this book, Michaels wove Olivia in this book amazingly well. Add in Olivia's communication through ASL and how those around her communicate with her, I was giddy each time she was on the page!
Asher might have taken me a minute to love because he is so so grumpy! But he gets a pass because he is a great dad that loves his daughter more than anything! And his need to protect those that he loves is so strong. I also appreciated how Phoebe put this man in his place and eased into her new role as nanny so well! She was a natural with Olivia. When Pheobe and Asher finally gave into their desire for one another, holy cow! And man oh man these two cannot keep their hands off each other. And friends, Michaels knows how to write steamy scene!
This was my first Corinne Michaels book but it for sure will not be last, because I am absolutely 100% in love with the Whitlock family and I cannot wait for more of them!

Forbidden Hearts is the first book in the Whitlock Family series. This book is about Asher and Phoebe, and is told from both of their points of view.
When Phoebe has a rough time in college she returns to her home town. Asher is now the sole responsible parent to his daughter while her mom is off on a trip for work. They aren't together, and he needs to help care for his daughter who is deaf.
Phoebe's dad asks her to help Asher out since she is going to school for that. Phoebe is going through some hard times so she takes the job.
So much happens in this. I fell in love with all of these characters, especially the little girl. I loved the conflict these characters went through, and how they were resolved.
I'm super excited to continue on with this series, and to see where it goes from here!

Great start to the series!
This book was great. Grumpy Asher and his daughter stole my heart. Phoebe was a great match for him! Can’t wait for the rest of the crew!
