this had everything i always want in a single dad/nanny romance, and corinne michaels honestly never disappoints.
the banter, the tension, the spice - it was pure perfection.

I’m not sure if it’s just the nanny romance trope I’m not loving recently, but this wasn’t working for me. I thought the dialogue between the characters came off unnatural at times, and some of the quotes or professions of feelings felt inconsistent to the characters and cringy as a result.
I didn’t love the dynamic between Asher and Phoebe, especially after hearing about Phoebe’s experience being taken advantage of by an older man. I didn’t think Asher was much better. The author tried to distinguish between the two situations, but in my opinion, one date out of town and a couple banging sessions wasn’t enough to make me think they were a great fit when all I felt from Asher towards Phoebe was lust and free childcare. I was not a fan of the twist ending.
The professor who had essentially groomed, gaslit and sexually coerced Asher’s younger sister AND his girlfriend did not face nearly enough punishment. They acted like driving 12 hours to punch the guy in the face was some big heroic move on Asher’s part, and then just bounced and did nothing to warn the wife that she’s literally married to a predator. Another thing that bothered me was the amount of characters that I’m assuming were cameo’s from other series. This was book one of a series, but I felt like there was a new character with an elaborate back story introduced every other chapter that had no relevance to this plot and it took me out of the story. You can have one or two, but it felt like she added every character she ever wrote about. I liked seeing deaf representation in this story, but I was a little disappointed that Olivia was just sort of dropped at the end and not a part of the last third of the book in any significant way, considering she is what brought them together.
