Combination Prince biography/critique/appreciation party from long time fan Ben Greenman that is intentionally all over the place. I can't tell you how much I love 1980s era Prince but reading this reminded me just how much he was all over the place after that decade--let's be honest, he released a lot of junk. Greenman charts the highs and lows with enough biographical elements to let me into Prince's life and world a little bit. Next time, I'd prefer a straight up biography I think rather than a bio-discography or whatever you want to call this one.

Digital advance so i don't know if there are no pictures or just not included in this version. Perfect book for the Prince fan. Lots of fun and a quick read.

I came into this knowing very little about Prince. During his peak years, I was not really into popular music, so I never really caught the bug, if you will. But I really enjoyed this look back at his life and legacy, and am definitely inspired to check out more of his music and listen for the things the author teased out.

The kind of writing where both you and the writer know he's pretty clever.

I haven't read books about music in a while, so this was fun and made me load up some Prince on my playlist.

Reading this book makes me want to be a bigger Prince fan. Musical artists like him are so rare...lovers of music and the craft of making music are lucky he got to realize his dream of living his craft.
The world lost him too soon.

Prince is and will remain my favorite musician. I've been an admirer for four decades and have been skeptical of anything written about him since last April. However, the author is known for his appreciation of all things PRN and he worked with Questlove (who contributed the foreword to this book) on his memoir so I gave it a chance. This is a truthful, balanced, appreciative look at Prince's career and you can tell how important he was to the writer. Mr. Greenman presents an extraordinary look at the man who transcended genre and helped change the world through his contributions. Highly recommended!

It’s a great sweeping look of Prince’s career & influences, but there were sections wheee the author added in personal stories that didn’t have to do with Prince that took me out of the book

When one is utterly obsessed making music, aesthetics, creativity, one will get damn good at those things...often to the detriment of all else.
