I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, but Audrey Rose became a compelling character as did her pal Thomas. There really wasn't much in the way of dramatic irony because I only knew what AR knew and when she expected someone of being Jack the Ripper I did as well.

I listened to this on audiobook most of the time and read the ebook version for a little bit of it. I really enjoyed the narrator and how she was able to do several voices to make the characters sound unique. I was so dissapointed when I had been listening to the audiobook and it had just been revealed the true identity of Jack when my loan of the audiobook expired. I was 80% done!!!! It was dreadful and I couldn't check it out again because there were three people ahead of me.
So I finished reading it August 31st while recovering from a bad dinner(ouch stomach ache).

Oh, if only Audrey Rose's inner monologue had been a shade less...irritating? Other people have commented on this and to be honest I feel a little weird complaining about it, but our MC's feminism was bad. She ranted about equality and being considered equal at nearly every turn while talking down about the other women in the story and still clearly considering herself superior to the women whose murders she is investigating. Shaming sex workers and taking pride in your station are not typically hallmarks of a good feminist, and it turned her story from inspiring, as it was intended to be, to disappointing. I liked the story and the romance, and I'll probably pick up book two. But I dearly hope Maniscalco saw some of this criticism and made some changes to the way she writes Audrey Rose in the rest of the books.
