I read the first two books of this series in my teens and didn't get around to the ones published after. This is my first re-read and I enjoyed The Book of Deacon so much! I'm excited to properly read the next 3 books and can't wait to see how the plot unfolds. I enjoy the all of the characters (even if Myranda is a tad whiney) and I'm excited to see their arks over the series.

Got this for free. Wasn't sure what to expect, it was a bit slow getting into it, but I liked where it went. Myranda is likeable.

I have read this book several times, and each time I enjoy it. The book is filled with adventure, survival, and magic. Just when the main character thinks it can't get worse, it always does! When she finally befriends and has someone to talk to other than herself, she learns he is not what he lead her to believe. I absolutely adore one of her companions whom she creates a deep bond with. The plot excelled nicely while unveiling revelations, contains well rounded characters and a good ending. Overall, very well written and one of my favorite series, though book one is my favorite out of the series.

This was the first I'd heard of, or read anything written by Joseph Lallo, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I don't like adding spoilers to reviews so I'm not going to here.

The main character was very well written with depth and some very real traits, that allowed the reader to empathize with them in certain circumstances. That doesn't mean there are not those times when you just want to shake them silly, because there are, and to me that added to the book. The main characters concerns about what is taking place in her world, are very real concerns that could be placed into todays world in which we live.

Will I read the follow on novels from this? Absolutely, I would also highly recommend it to anyone that likes this genre.

I enjoyed the book. It really has the makings of a great read, full of elemental magic, action and adventure. It is like an RPG come to life. However, the fact that Deacon appears at around halfway through the book, and with Lain also competing for the protagonist role, and with Myranda blindly following Lain despite the fact that she supposedly hates him, are facts that kind of turn me off. Still I would want to read the sequel in case it gets better.

this story was a good start to a series. It was a little slow at times. And Miranda is pretty clueless. I pretty much love Deacon also Lane.
I look forward to the next in the series.

This book was amazing :) I LOVED it!

Intriguing story and complex characters, curious to see where the series goes.

Still can't believe this was free. Great read. Very entertaining! i will be sure to get the next one!

When I spot free books on my nook, I'm not expecting much but I was greatly surprised by this book. The faults:It is lacking an intensity and urgency on the antagonist side of things though. I don't really see a definite villain to our hero. This is a trilogy though, so I might find it in the next one. Also, the lack of actual chapter breaks is a little annoying. It makes it feel like the story is being told all in one breath. The good stuff:The characters are what carries this book. I was sucked into this book and couldn't wait to read the next part every time I put it down, which was nice. The descriptions and time taken to develop the character and her abilities is nice. She doesn't just suddenly have all this knowledge and power, she has to earn it through hard work. I wish that the legend that the book is based around had been presented at the beginning of the book, so that I had some idea of why the main character mixes it up. I'm glad I came across this book though, and hope that my friends will take a chance on it as well.
