I absolutely adored this book! Anne, the most tender-hearted, sweet and intelligent girl, is completely surrounded by vain and selfish close relations that completely overlook her character and usefulness until the very moment they need something of her. They disregard her feelings and have completely ignored her anguish at having had to refuse a life with her soulmate, Captain Wentworth.

His reappearance caused Anne both pain and joy at seeing him again, but I was slightly enraged on her behalf for her quiet suffering due to his apparent cool and polite attitude. But despite his appearance it seems time only passed slowly but did not alter their attachment, no matter what they may hoped or wanted.

I was naturally overjoyed that things did not work out with Wentworth's prospective partner, and I was blissfully glad to find that Anne was not taken with Mr Elliot despite everyone having already made plans for their future. And, I have to say I have mixed feelings about Mrs Russell; I found her pushy and manipulative, but at least she admitted she was wrong.

I greedily absored every look shared or few words spoken between Wentworth and Anne, I held my breath in those small infinities, but I squealed fully at the letter he left her; I swooned and melted and gloried. But while it was such an overwhelming moment, I couldn't help but feel their pain at the time that had been wasted (eight very long years) due to the persuasion and the relenting they gave to such opinions of others. Despite, or perhaps in spite of, the time and influence that separated them, their love did not waver; it did not wilt but only bloomed into something so strong and overpowering that no one but each other could do. They are a perfect match, and Jane Austen really made fall in love the second-chance romance trope.

(Note: I listened to the audiobook but I'm itching to the read the physical)

my prof brought notice to how mrs. smith having the worst cards dealt in her life yet still remaining optimistic was jane austen giving her own self life during her dying days and honestly i thought about that a lot. i think it’s so fascinating what writers can and will project into their words and how they make sense of themselves through their writing. i also really liked anne and wentworth their dynamic was interesting as essential ex-lovers who even after 8 years could not lose their orbit of one another… love is so hopeless but it is also so deeply profound. anyways yeah just thinking my thoughts

I really appreciate it how mature the main characters are in this novel. Jane Austin has such a way with words, and she manages to make thoughtful commentary on the social hierarchy of her society without compromising on a beautiful love story. I definitely think I like her other works a bit better, but this was still pretty good.
