Solid sci-fi adventure story, touching on some interesting themes and commentary. Fun read with some cool imagery, enjoyed the action towards the end. Really interesting seeing the origins of some tropes and reading the book having liked media that was very strongly influenced by this book. Writing style was a tiny bit of a strain to follow to begin with, but then again it's more than a hundred years old.
Listened to the audio of this as a part of my effort to read the oldies, and the modern day retellings/inspired bys...

The "twist" was obvious but still took forever to get to, and there wasn't enough commentary to make this story interesting. Could have been done better in 100 pages by just getting to the point
