Well, I’m hooked.

I honestly haven’t enjoyed a YA novel this much since The Hunger Games. Not only has Sabaa Tahir managed to write an entire novel in first person present tense (a trope I’ve grown weary of in the YA genre) without making me notice, but she also did it with TWO POVs. Both Laia and Elias have distinct, separate voices, the descriptions of the world are lush and real, and I’m deeply invested in the mystical, supernatural aspects of the lore that I hope are expanded upon in the following books. Very excited to read book two.

Okay. when I read the summary/description of this book I was excited about what might happen. Only, while reading, I realized that the description is vague compared to the events that happen in this book. and there are A LOT of events. while reading this book, my consistent thought was, "i didn't sign up for that but i'm not complaining." this book was not boring AT ALL, the story did not drag. it is honestly one of the best books I've ever read. and i can't wait to read the next one.

A ty mapy...

Naprosto dokonale uvěřitelný, brutální a magický svět. Skvělé postavy, Laia a Elias, ty jsem si naprosto zamilovala. Děj má spád a bere vám dech z plic. Ta akce! Měla jsem permanentní husí kůži. Autorka vám nedovolí přestat číst, dokud vás děj dokonale nepohltí a nezbyde z vás jen vycucaná troska. Knihu vřele doporučuji. 5*

“Ty jsi jiskra v popelu, Eliasi Veturie. Budeš zapalovat a hořet, pustočit a ničit. Nemůžeš to změnit. Nemůžeš to zastavit.”

“Jsi plná života a temnoty a síly a ducha. Budeš hořet, protože jsi jiskra v popelu. To je tvůj osud.”

I really enjoyed this book, but there was just something missing that means it's only 4 stars rather than 5. Still really good, though!

I'm giving this one 4 star but it's probably 4,5/5. But colleged likes to f*ck with my life so I had to stop reading for days and stoped in the middle, I really liked it but I think that it'd have been even better if I had the time to read trough it without stoping so much time.

Elias tho! That third trial killed my soul. I'm so in love with him. And I think he will make such a cute couple with Laia *shipping* Let's see what happens tho. I really like Keenan, but I think somethings of with him, dunno what.

And I really liked Laia's development. In the beginning she kind of pissed me off a little bitbut in the end she accepted the turns her life had got and embraced her new one. So, yeah, you go girl!

I really liked this world and the double POV this book had going on. I always think it's so much more interesting when we have more than one point of view. Hoping that I can read A Tourch Against The Night next month
