This is the first book I've read by Kim Karr. I enjoyed her fast paced writing style and the quirky characters she brought to life. There were moments where I felt the fantasy of the story had me questioning if this was really possible in reality (I know I'm reading fiction and I should just go with it, but I don't know how else to describe losing the moment, aside from just tossing it out there.)

I love that this particular Royal story had a ginger haired hero (yeah gingers!!) Max is even more endearing with his Prince Harry look-a-likeness.

Everyone wants someone to love them for themselves; not for their money, not for their fame, not for their privilege, not because of who they are, but simply for the person they are inside. Max stumbles upon Gigi, who actually has no idea who he is or where he comes from, aside that he is her new boss at the magazine Bombshell where she is to begin working. He is enamored of her boldness at basically telling him off and enjoys the brief time he spends with her before she discovers whom he actually is.

Gigi needs her job to pay her bills, live her life, well, basically survive in the city. When a stranger enters the same cab she does and then also happens to go to the same building she does, on her first day on the job no less (stalkerish much) Sure, he's amazingly hot, and she might have kissed him, as payment for the cab ride, but she wouldn't have done anything more, except she's a bit upset when she discovers the hot guy from the cab is also her new boss. To top matters off, he's not only her boss, he just so happens to be a prince.

Things go topsy-turvy in Gigi's world and Max is feeling things he hasn't felt, well ever. These two couldn't be from more different worlds, but when you have a connection, you'll do just about anything to keep it.

An adorable read. Max and Gigi instantly fall for each other in the back of a cab. But can a love affair survive when it is based on lies? When Gigi finally finds out that Max is royalty and by the way betrothed to another all hell breaks loose. Can the hearts true love make it in the end? Great characters and another great read in the Royal series.

I originally fell in love with Kim Karr with her Men of Laguna series. I think I read No Pants Required when it was free or .99 on Amazon, and I fell in love with her characters. Every one of her books engages me and pulls me in because the characters are compelling. There is usually some push and pull between the H/h that keeps you reading so you can see how it is resolved.

In January of this year, she released Washed Up Royal, creating a “universe” of royalty. With Washed Up Royal, we are vaguely introduced to Prince Maximus Napoleon Montgomery, the former fiance to Princess Victoria Blanchette. What do we find out about him? On breaking their engagement, Prince Maximus “lets loose.” He becomes a bit of a manwh$$$, potentially threatening his father’s kingdom.

Enter Karr’s latest offering in this series, Would Be King. Prince Maximus aka Max is living temporarily in New York City entering the world of magazine publishing as a way to engage in a life separate from being a royal. Quite frankly, he’s trying to find himself or escape the expectations of his position. Enter Gigi, a Texan transplant to New York City who is looking to break into fashion. Gigi and Max meet unexpectedly in a cab, and the sparks fly. Fortunately, they continue to cross paths and the fireworks continue.

This story is a story about acceptance. Max struggles to accept the stricture of royal life. He understands the responsibility of it, but the mantle that lies upon his shoulders is heavy, and he rebels against the expectations of his father and his country. Unfortunately, he cannot progress if he doesn’t come to accept his situation and find his space within that life. Similarly, Gigi struggles to accept that she can fit with Max and his world. As is the case with most stories about royalty, Gigi feels unworthy of Max’s title and responsibility. However, she grows to love him. Herein lies the angst of this story. Gigi sacrifices her own happiness so that Max can fulfill his obligations.

Together, Gigi and Max are fiery. They’re witty and brash and sexy. Reading them, for most of the book, is exciting and enjoyable. They pulled me through the story, even the parts that hurt my heart. I also loved how Karr fashioned Prince Maximus after England’s Prince Harry. Given his current popularity, the nod to our real prince adds another layer of character development to Max’s character.

Just like her Men of Laguna series and the ReWined series, I have fast fallen in love with Kim Karr’s books. There is so much more to explore with this new series of books, as there are several royals to consider. If they continue to be as interesting as Victoria/Adrien and Max/Gigi, this reader will be spending some serious book money.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my second try with miss Karr book. The first book,Come a Little Closer, i end up with disappointment. And also Would Be King.

Again, like the first book i read, the story is lacking depth. The foundation of the characters are very shaky. All of the story is just about sex. When we get into the point where some explanation/resolution needed, more sex. Yes i know everyone likes sex. But its just too much in this book.

Without a good story or plot or layer into the story development, i just

Kim Karr has given us yet another delightful read with Would Be King! The story of Max and Gigi gives you all the feels and emotions you need in this cute, fun and sexy story. Max and Gigi are an absolute delight, their chemistry and banter is amazing. I love how their tale of love unfolded and I thought Kim Karr brought just that right amount of drama into the mix to make this a fantastic royal read!

ARC received for an honest review

It is always a good day when a new Kim Karr story turns up on your kindle.

And a story with a ginger Prince - hells yeah!

I didn't even read the blurb before diving into this book, as I knew that after reading Washed Up Royal, I would be reading the rest of this series.

This book has a bit of a Harry/Meghan feel about it. The prince. The American commoner.

I love their banter, the push/pull between them as they try to deny their attraction and feelings for each other.

This was such a cute read. I was drawn into the story right from the beginning, and I just couldn't stop reading it. I loved getting more of the couple from Washed Up Royal, adored seeing more of the guys and girls from the Vesta Isles families.

And I am really looking forward to the next books in this series.

Would Be King
By Kim Karr
4 stars

I love a good royal romance, I think it satisfies my want to be a princess when I was little and Would Be King was a great read! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed her easy to read writing style. I really liked the characters, Gigi and Max! Gigi was a strong female lead, she was a great free spirit and I would love to be like her! Max had my heart from the beginning – he was everything I wanted him to be and more!
This story made me laugh so much at times; it really was a brilliant read. It may have been a little predictable at times but I didn’t care at all as I was completely swept up in their story and secretly I wanted to be Gigi!!
This is the second book in the series but I read it as a standalone however I absolutely want to read book 1 now! I loved all of the characters and want to read more about them!
Would Be King was a solid 4 star read that I highly recommend!

Max, Max, Max what am I going to do with you??? I know what I would like to do. Lol. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely look into reading more of this author's work.

Prince Max was released from his betrothed and friend Victoria and decided to sow some of his wild oats. As you will read he did A LOT of sowing. He has always had his life planned out for him, and in true rebel fashion decided it is not what he wants. Enter the beautiful vivacious Gigi. Gigi is a Texas girl who moved to NYC in hopes of making it in the fashion industry. All Gigi wants is to make it to work on her first day on time. As you can imagine things don't always go as planned.

Max finds Gigi refreshing and loves her sense of humor and how she is dedicated to just about everything in her life. Gigi is not sure what to think of Max, but knows that she feels a little unsettled by him. The dare to have her stand up to her boss and then come to find out he is her new boss was funny. Together they find what life has to offer. The love and friendship they have for one another is not only sweet but HOT as well.

I’m definitely addicted to this series now. I adored Max and Gigi. The Prince Harry comparison by Gigi in their initial meeting may have helped cement the perfect muse in my mind and add to my swooning over Max. The deeper into the series we get we see Max had so much more pressure than it initially seems. And as he falls harder for Gigi, so much more fighting against them. But I’m sure I’m not spoiling anything by saying they were able to find their HEA and it was absolutely perfect (including another nod to Prince Harry as muse). Loved it!
