The story was beautifully told and the art was lovely.

There were moments of humor which were well placed and charming.

There were times of making fun of one’s appearance or other bullying that were framed positively and were difficult to get through.

The backdrop of the war was real but it did not feel like a dry retelling of history but rather a truly personal account of how resistance, rebellion, and war impact one’s life.

i watched the movie years ago because i saw a screen cap and thought the art was so intriguing and absolutely loved it, when i found out it was a graphic novel i wanted it ever since but it was never available at any libraries thankfully hunter gave me the worlds best christmas gift and viola i’ve now read the book. it lived up to the movie and then some, not only is it very timely but also makes so much more sense after investing time into learning about the world outside of america. it would read just as well without the illustrations but they are so well done and powerful AH it just works so well. i’m very thankful for this book :0)
