I feel like if you gonna compare yourself to another book you should be better than said book
This book was everything I wanted in a fantasy series. Romance, tension, intrigue, and court politics! The writing kept you on the edge of your seat. There isn't anything in this book I disliked. I devoured this within a day and I can't wait to read book 2.

I understand the main character is 19, but her rash actions and immaturity were irritating.

What a great start to a long series! Characters to love and root for, plot setup that is intriguing, an interesting and dangerous world, mysteries and questions that need to be answered, and the yummiest of slow burns with a forbidden guard/trainer - 😏 I’m ALL IN. This has ALL the makings of a potential add to my favorite series of all times list and I CANNOT WAIT to continue reading it! I love that feeling of being EXCITED to read more in a world!
The FMC, Lyr, has a big heart and is trying to do her best to keep everyone safe, at times to her own detriment. While she seems to be insufferable at points, I really feel this is her putting on airs to seem like she is powerful to others when really she is just trying to keep her head above water. She breaks ONLY when in the company of a certain broody trainer/bodyguard whom has a dark past and seems to only be soft with her 🥹 AKA Rhyan. And DAMNNNN do I need more of this man in my life 😮💨 I’m so pumped to see where this relationship goes and just how we get there because their tension is 👌🏻 I have a feeling both will be having amazing character arcs 👏🏻

While the world building and info dumping was a bit confusing at the beginning, I got into the story pretty fast! Overall LOVED!
