This is one of the sweetest books ever. It wasn't just 'aw, this is fluffy and uplifting!' it was realistic and BEAUTIFUL.
-- The writing style was so sweet! It played like a movie in my mind. Another EPIC thing was the way things were described from an artist's perspective... with the colors and all. Just, gah!
-- The Story/Setting was vivid, wonderful description, and well done!
-- The themes were incredible. The way hope was brought to life, how the love could be felt bouncing off the pages, how the pain was never belittled or shallowed-down... I felt everything the characters felt. It was realistic but still showed God's Love. I can't begin to say how much this story's themes meant to me!
-- The characters were realistic, vibrant, and like I said, I felt what they did! They had goals and kept up hope... I don't want to give spoilers, but the characters were just amazing. The lessons they learned were strong and handled well. Lucy and Spencer are THE CUTEST. Also: Levi and Spencer killed me.
Overall, an amazing book! I cannot wait to get the second book!

I’d heard good things about this book and so picked it up one time. Unfortunately I only got to around 14% before I stopped. There were a few reasons I didn’t finish.

1.) I wasn’t interested in the characters enough to keep reading.

2.) My biggest complaint was this. The single young lady invites a homeless young man to stay in the bottom of her Victorian home, and eat with her, and there is not one else living there with them. She wakes him up in the morning too. That is not something I can condone or want to read about. They might not have done anything wrong, but it gives the appearance of possible wrong doing and the Bible says we are to abstain from all appearance of evil.

There were some things that made me totally confused about how something could be, but perhaps those were explained later.
