I'm glad i decided to pick up this book.

Honestly I still got confused about who's the author talking about until the 3rd chapters but nvm. The plot was actually good I love how details the stories are. But I think the ending is a little uhh cliffhanging(??) since they didn't actually tell what happened to Jude that made him became 👼🏻👼🏻

I've grown to love them so much especially Jude and Willem. I feel like I've watched them growing up my whole life. My poor Jude... anyways it didn't get me sobs for hours. Yes I did shed tears a little and had me to stop reading and relax myself. It was a neverending tragedies I'm so proud of Jude for trying and holding until his last breath. Those shits he went through wasn't easy I'm so glad he had people who actually cares and love for him. This book has got me realizing that there are few of peoples who do cares about us but sometimes we can't see it because we resent them. I have my all respect and love for Harold, he lost  the people who he loves and cares the most. I'm thankful for Harold and Willem the most for not giving up on Jude, for always being the with him, help and gives all the affection he secretly craves, for being so patient with him all their lives.

The book feels like a roller coaster, not the one that excites but the one that makes you nauseous. The lows are very low, and the highs are very high, and pretty soon it becomes a predictable pattern. The author claimed she does not believe in therapy, and it shows. Also, just look at the triggers for this book

This is miserable. My first thought upon finishing this was “what the fuck did I just read?! And why would anyone write this?”. There were some beautiful moments in this and I enjoyed the found family themes, but that was where it stopped. The trauma is overwhelming in this story. The author has stated numerous times that she wanted to create a character that NEVER gets better, which I think is important to understand going into this (and messed up!), as a book like this can be really damaging to read.

Poor Jude 😭 I feel so sorry for him. But I’m more annoyed at the author than sad. I think my main issue with this book is that it lacks sensitivity towards trauma survivors and sends a pretty harmful message suggesting you will never overcome your trauma - which I think is awful. I think the author exploits trauma more than she claims to explore it. This book doesn’t send out much of a positive message, there isn’t some huge resolution that leaves the reader feeling cathartic. Is this torture p*rn? I don’t know if that’s for me to decide but this book just seems unrealistic at times, like the author threw everything at the wall to see what would stick. I know some people find this book to be “real”, which I’m happy you do, but I found her torture of Jude relentless. Her portrayal of race and gender were a bit strange too.

What I’m choosing to take away from this book is that you really do need to treat everyone with kindness, because you have no idea what they may be going through. Sending lots of love to anyone reading this 💛

I ✨DO NOT✨ recommend this book. Do yourself a favour and don’t read this!!!!! I hate this. 🧍🏽‍♀️

My rating: 1/5 ⭐️

Also “nishihara syndrome”???? 😂

This was quite possibly the saddest book I’ve ever read.

This is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful novels I have ever read. Treat it with reverence, if not caution. It is not for everyone, but if you’re like me then you will never be able to stop thinking about it.

this book could be a hard read for some, tiktok definitely likes to prompt it as such. mostly, people remember the sad and bad and leave out all the little details of life that jude goes through. genuinely a life changing book. hanya is a person who uses language to rhe fullest, every word and line means something. I just adore it. definitely my most favourite book ever.
