This book (my third read) will crush me every time, I’m sure of it… yet I can’t help but return to it and I’m sure I’ll return to it again if I get the chance. It’s one of the most earnest love stories I’d ever read, so beautiful yet very real. I love it. And I have to visit Ireland again.

3.5*

So. Good. Well written.

Outlander Wannabe. Didn’t work for me.

This book has been sitting on my shelf since 2019 and made it through many shelf clean outs due to me moving. I finally picked it up and oh boy did I enjoy it. We follow Anne who makes a journey back to Ireland to spread her grandfathers ashes in the Loch of his childhood and somehow ends up back in time in 1921! This touched on many historical events as Ireland continues to fight for the freedom as a county they deserve. It also has an achingly beautiful romance that stretches through time. This was a story woven in a way that kept me so engaged. So many elements that I love were here, magical realism, an emotional intelligent main man and thankfully a bittersweet happy ending. I loved how our fmc Anne found home in her ancestral lands and Ireland welcomed its children home ❤️. It was lovely seeing the spirit of the Irish people who despite so much collective trauma and oppression their spirit endures, it’s easy to look at the stability they have now vs the uncertainty that those who fought hard for their freedom.
