I absolutely adore Poe's stories!!! My favourites are: The Black Cat; The Pit and the Pendulum; The Cask of Amontillado; The Assignation; The Tell-Tale Heart; The Oval Portrait; The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether; The Murders in the Rue Morgue; Hop-Frog; How to Write a Blackwood Article.
Note: This isn't actually the version I read (therefore you won't find those exact stories in it), I just truly like the cover.

The five short stories were great, it just missed something in my opinion, the ending wasn’t as shocking as other fantastic stories I’ve read but they were short and easy to read ! As a person who gets frightened very easily I found them not very scary (which made them even more enjoyable)

There are a few 4 star stories in this collection, predominantly the longer ones (murder in the rue morgue, mystery of Marie Roget, gold bug), but far too many of the shorter under 15 page stories I found dull, tedious, or ridiculous, marring my enjoyment of the longer stories.
The character Dupin as a precursor to Sherlock Holmes is superb, it is a shame that there were only ever 3 stories written with this character, 2 of them in this collection.

Spooky, gothic, dark, suspenseful. All those stories were gripping and I can see the influence of his work on so many other authors that came after him. My favorites were William Willson, The fall of the house Usher, the red death, the whirlpool and the pit and Pendulum. (Unfortunately the version of the book that I got didn't have all his stories but I'm definitely intrigued)🌛🌝🌜
