I think this could be a 5-star book for many readers. My issues with the book are personal, and more about my taste than the writing.

Fast-paced and aware of itself, The Anomaly reads like a mixture of the TV show Lost and If On A Winter's Night A Traveler. The author does an impressive job of efficiently building different characters' emotional landscapes, with only a few of the 12 characters coming off as cliché outlines. One issue common in speculative fiction is that, when something impossible happens, the whole world in the story has the same reaction. This book gets around that issue by taking the time to show many characters' reactions to the same impossible moment. This grounds the book by depicting the wide range of possible human responses; you can more easily find yourself in that crowd.
Minor: Sexual assault and Child abuse

Such a fascinating and unnerving concept. I made the mistake of reading this on a plane, but I was so hooked, I couldn’t stop reading. I appreciated that the author didn’t sacrifice character for the sake of the plot, especially given how compelling the plot was.
Moderate: Child abuse, Sexual assault, and Homophobia

This was such an intriguing and engrossing read. In particular, I found the ending to be really bold and was a satisfying end to the ride.
