Great story idea, but it didn’t quite live up to it’s full potential. Very interesting concepts and ideas though, so I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something new and fresh. Some aspects of the storyline were in my opinion not fully developed, but the writing ist extremely beautiful and easy to comprehend. I didn’t understand all of the technical and physical information, but I feel like that wasn’t too essential to the plot. I have never read anything similar before, that’s for sure!

I was given this book as a present from my sweet family who knows I adore translations, and when I first read the description, I was intrigued.  It’s set-up primarily as a mystery with elements of science-fiction and multiple dimensions. The book begins by introducing the reader to many characters; each set-up with a backstory and a common thread of a flight they took together.  As the book progresses, the mystery is laid out for the reader and the flight that connected them is the center of the story.  Without giving too much away, an unexplainable situation occurs, and it becomes a global mystery with rippling consequences.

I really enjoyed the pace and the way the book was laid out in the first 2/3 of the book, and I had trouble with the meandering pace of the last 1/3.  Additionally, the way each country and each character were portrayed bordered on exaggerations, and it detracted from the story a bit.  I suspect the author was going for political and social satire and it just felt out of place in a mystery that was trying to build suspense.  I enjoyed seeing how each character handled the “event” and the variety of ways it played out in their lives - I think this was my favorite part of the book.  Overall, I liked the premise and enjoyed the thought-provoking aspects; it fell into the “selectively recommend” category for me.

There is little that's light about this book, but the weight is a pleasure to bear.

This was the best and most interesting book I’ve read in a long while. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and I will be thinking about this book for ages.

First of all, this book has some triggers in it so it may not be for everyone and I’ll try to list those triggers in this comment - without spoilers.

At the beginning we learn about various characters who are of different age and each of them with a completely different story. We somewhat get to know them, see their flaws and later in the book we observe how those characters change and adapt to weird and indescribable circumstances. We see the characters observe their own behavior in a analytical type of way, and change their own behavior based on what they saw.

The book touches various topics: from child harassment, through homosexuality in orthodox parts of Africa to metaphysical existential debate.

Hard to say more about it without spoiling anything, overall a very good book with a rather predictable ending - hence 4/5.
