Poetry collections aren't generally my thing, but this was so impactful ... somehow both tragic and lovely. An important read for anti-racist looking for more insight into the reality of the Black experience from the standpoint of a powerful Black, queer, female voice.

These poems were unmistakably well crafted, but difficult for me personally to comprehend, because they use a lot of AAE and frequently reference aspects of black culture that I as a white woman am simply not very familiar with. I find value in reading works this in order to learn and grow, and to support authors of color who are so often over looked, but I didn't feel that I currently have the mental space available to give this collection the attention it deserves. I hope to come back to this book when I have the time and energy to work through it. Marie's writing is sharp and visceral, and I know that when I can dedicate time to it, I will appreciate having done so.

Took a month to read and honestly fought through a reading slump to finish it.
Veneurative, inventive, and grateful are words that come to mind to describe it.
Didn’t note all the CW so I recommend you seek them out elsewhere.
