This is a really good, gritty, violent series. Lots of death. Thumbs up.

Charlie Huston's books keep me up at night cuz I can't put them down. I thought "Caught Stealing" was good enough but this one, the sequel, is just amazing. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Huston is able to combine crazy scenes and cartoonish characters with good but steady dialogue and not make the read feel over-stylized just for the sake of. A gripping book, I eagerly await reading the third.

Really enjoyed this crime-fiction, or compassionate-noir as one reviewer puts it. Fast paced, our anti-hero lurches through an ever-more-harrowing series of adventures that follows on excellently from the first book. It's pretty dark stuff, our hero a very changed man.
I found myself looking forward to reading more of this each time so carried straight on into the 3rd and final book in the series upon finishing this one. Surely a good sign I enjoyed it?

I couldn't put this one down. I really enjoyed this second entry in the Hank Thompson story. Charlie Huston has a great flair for writing unique characters and realistic dialogue.

pulp action.
starts off well, slows down so much that I nearly stopped reading and then kicked into overdrive.

i liked this ok. not as much as the first in the series but it was still entertaining. however, this is one unlucky guy. i started to feel like when i was watching season 3 of the show 24 and thought, "you know, this just passed my suspension of disbelief." obviously, i have a very high suspension of disbelief.

It was the blurb on the cover that did it. “This is one mean, cold, slit-eyed mother of a book.” — Peter Straub. [b:Six Bad Things|21279|Six Bad Things (Hank Thompson #2)|Charlie Huston|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1320509027s/21279.jpg|22460] is a hard contemporary hardboiled book.
