reread. i think an interesting look into who is to blame for what, and what makes someone deserving of a punishment (if anyone can really be deserving of terrible things at all)

Beautiful

Bravo to Mr Doerr for so beautifully giving me the opportunity to maybe understand blindness. I don't just mean the physical blindness of Marie-Laure either. The descriptions were vivid and involved all the senses. He even made the descriptions of radio transmissions interesting. I had a hard time putting this one down and was sad when I reached the end. I enjoyed the switching from specific dates in 1944 to 1940. This generated tension as small bits would be revealed and then I wanted to find out how that particular piece of information had been discovered. Well done.

By far, this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s beautifully written, with different voices and experiences interwoven throughout. I cannot fully describe the way this book has touched me, but I highly recommend it to everyone.

This story was far more than a conventional WWII tale. It's beautifully written with a heartbreaking, haunting story spun around some of the most memorable characters. The story was a bit difficult to start off but was well worth it at the end.
