This is a short story of obsession and codependency. This semi-autobiographical novella follows an affair that the unnamed character has and how it totally eclipses her life. A quick and fascinating read.

Relat curt molt íntim i emocional. M'ha agradat la narració i considero que l'autora és molt valenta.

One of the things I love most about reading books is when it makes me want to write something myself. This is the first Annie Ernaux I've ever read and it is so good, it has convinced me that I too can write anything I want to.
Simple Passion is about an all-consuming love affair with a married foreigner. The narrator, who is presumably Ernaux, is acutely self-aware and reflective. She describes her feelings, her obsession, her passion so succinctly and as a matter of fact. I caught myself snickering at things she'd said, but I found it amusing and relatable nonetheless. Most importantly, Ernaux had turned something specific into something universal, and vice versa. It may not be for everyone, but it does resonate.
P.S. I had to Google what a young Alain Delon looked like. Who wouldn't be down bad for a man who looked like THAT?
P.P.S. For a moment I was confused if this book was fiction or non-fiction, but it turns out it's autobiographical. Ah.
