Fun as always! At first, I was disappointed it wasn't Poirot - but it was fine. Great read!

This is one of Agatha Christie's rare forays out of her comfort zone of cozy mysteries, and even more rare is the fact that its really good. Most of her romances, thrillers, and espionage stories are just terrible, with bemusing characters and flimsy plots. The only exceptions are [b:And Then There Were None|16299|And Then There Were None|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1638425885l/16299._SY75_.jpg|3038872] and this book. The former is still a murder mystery with a cast of vaguely unsavory characters like most Agatha Christie's, only without the outside detective to provide ballast and a more psychological thrill. This book, though, is way off-formula. Not only are there several characters that the audience is meant to sympathize with, they are genuinely charming and funny. Who knew that Agatha Christie had this much humor in her? I should have known after reading about the Bantrys. There is also a believable and cute romance. I didn't think that was possible in a Christie novel. The mystery is not her most surprising, but it definitely fooled me the first time I read it. The second time through, the solution seems much more obvious, but I was totally led up the garden path by Christie's oh-so-casual clues the first time. This is a Christie classic and ranks up there as one of my top 5 favorites of hers.

Over the last 25 years, I have started this book at least half a dozen times but this is the first time that I actually finished it.

I like Tommy and Tuppence; actually I love them. But as a first book, this wasn’t Christie’s finest. Of course I thought myself so clever that I had cracked the code and found out who the real villain was, only to be proved wrong in the last 10 minute. We’ll, that happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

After a egoistic Poirot and a sweet Marple, this sassy couple is another of Christie’s masterpiece creations.
