Love, love, love Tommy and Tuppence. This is the first of their adventures together, starting just after WWI, both Tommy and Tuppence are at loose ends and short on cash. Meeting up for lunch, they decide to start a partnership called the Young Adventurers. Even as they leave lunch, a man stops Tuppence and asks her to help out with a project. When he asks for her name, she comes up with the first name she can remember, "Jane Finn." It was a name that Tommy had overheard and mentioned. When she says the name, it sends a bolt of electricity through the man and he accuses Tuppence of playing him. This sets off a chain of events that has them meeting up with an American millionaire in search of his cousin, a woman who has been in hiding for over five years, and a group of men who are trying to overthrow the British government.
Will have to read the next book in the series. Again. I just hope I own it and don't have to wait to get to the library...

Flat broke and out of work, Tommy and Tuppence, school friends, reconnect in their early twenties in London, and as a last resort for their financial troubles they decide to start a bold business scheme, advertising that they are "willing to do anything, go anywhere."

In the spirit of classic mysteries, trouble finds them soon enough, and they find themselves deep into an international political conspiracy, a strange disappearance, sudden death and well off collaborators.

This was my first Tommy and Tuppence novel, and was such a fun and cute read. I had a great time getting to know them and following along on their adventure. I was surprised to chuckle many times at their dialogue at the beginning of the book (at the words and ideas).

It has such a different pacing than the Poirot books. And I'm looking forward to comparing it with the first Miss Marple book as well (which I don't remember reading before).

predictable ending, though stylistically different from most Christie novels.

My first adventure with Agatha Christie, and though I thought it was far more obvious who the bad guy was than I was expecting, I'm putting that down to this being one of her earlier novels and am expecting great things from future ones.

It was a fun, quick read, not very taxing, but worth 3 1/2 stars just for the entertainment.

Just became uninterested

this is so close to being 4 stars but like... the fact the overwhelming majority of this book is "character x is missing lets find them!" *character found, but now character y is missing*

Like for a "Tommy & Tuppence" novel, they sure as hell spend like literally 0 time together and it would be more accurate to call the first half the Tuppence and the second half the Tommy. Cause like literally they're both MIA for such long sections of this. And it sucks because their interactions are really good like if the book went on the same way it was early on, it could've easily been 5 stars.

The mystery twists were at least interesting, though I figured out "where" Jane was before it was revealed, though i think that might have been intentional. However I also just don't really like the big final reveal, like it was just eh. I was kinda into it but then I just decided I didn't like it at all. Like it was a nice twist, just didn't work for me.

One of the middle of the road Christie novels, thankfully not one of her awful ones, but still sad it isn't one of her better ones.

I listened to the audio version of this book using the Libby app.

As someone who has read many different murder mystery and police procedural novels, I have read very little from Agatha Christie. I am going to change that now! I did enjoy the characters, the plot of the story, and how different aspects of the story were relayed through the different characters. I will be looking for more of her novels in the future.
