These two really must be the blueprint for a lot of ‘comedic’ amateur sleuthing duos that have followed in the 92(!) years that have followed. This book is a lot of fun to read; an action packed crime caper in the sense of all the cliché 1920s films that spring to mind. It is essentially an espionage plot which is never Christie’s strongest subject, and it is a little over cooked by the end with a few too many double bluffs but it is a darn good story all considered.
Enjoyed re-reading this Tommy & Tuppence adventure caper. Tommy and Tuppence hitch up and form the Young Adventurers Company and instantly get mixed up in espionage and the search for the elusive Jane Finn. As they bumble along being smart and foolish in turns, Christie does a fantastic job introducing us to two young, snappy sleuths! Poirot has always been my favourite, but these two have grown on me with the re-reads.

Agatha Christie, immer wieder unterhaltsam.

I’ve yet to read an Agatha Christie that hasn’t had me going “what the hell what the hell what the HELL” yet. It’s not exactly news that she’s a master, but I’ll say it anyways: she’s a master.
But honestly? This book would get five stars just for Tommy and Tuppence alone. I need to read the rest of their adventures ASAP, and I know I’ll be disappointed there aren’t more once I’ve finished.

I was so mad with myself that I didn't get the ending.
Anyways, this is really the first time that I've read an Agatha Christie novel with a solid romance part. This isn't like Hastings and his wife. Tommy and Tuppence have known each other for a long time. They hang out in this novel and we get to see their connections, even if they won't admit it themselves.
"The Secret Adversary" started off with a lighter tone, almost like we were going on a treasure hunt instead of finding a missing person. However, as the risks get higher, the tone becomes more serious and the pressure grows to find the mysterious Mr Brown before all hell breaks lose in Britain.
Plot was classic Agatha Christie. I did find that it was a little easier to figure out who dunnit in this novel them some of her others. I had it narrowed down to two and was so sure that it was somebody else that I was shocked when I was wrong. Then I started to kick myself because it made so much sense. Going back to my original point, this novel was easier to follow and if you use your little grey cells, you can figure out who did it.
I found that "The Secret Adversary" is different from the novels that involved Poirot and Miss Marple. I enjoyed the fact that Christie can still write her mysteries, but at the same time, make a series different because of the characters that she uses. Sometimes with Poirot and Miss Marple, I feel like I'm reading the same series. But with Tommy and Tuppence, I wasn't reminded of Poirot and Miss Marple as much.
I'm super excited to read the next one!
