I started reading Agatha Christie at least 20 years ago, and the funny thing about them is that you can really enjoy reading them at the time, but they are actually incredibly forgettable! I remember my Mum reading some of my Agatha Christies when I first started on them - she had read them many years earlier as a young girl herself, and was surprised that she either wasn’t reading any of the same ones as she had read previously (although granted, Ms Christie was a very prolific author) or she just couldn’t remember any of them.

Now, 20 years plus further on, and I am in the same boat! Except that my initial love affair with Agatha Christie murder mysteries lasted long enough to enable me to get through almost all of her novels (except for several that my library didn’t have and so were a bit more difficult to lay my hands on), and on a re-read of some of her works, I also can’t remember them!! And I do know for a fact that I read this one - it was my first Tommy and Tuppence, and I thought it was fantastic, at the time. I can even see the copy of the book I read in my mind’s eye - but the story is not at all familiar!! Nor did I guess “whodunnit” this time around!!

Oh well, at least it enables me to enjoy her works all over again!

This was much more of an adventure than I was expecting, since most of the Agatha Christie books I've read have been murder mysteries, but it was a fun time. I liked Tommy and Tuppence as main characters and I think I'll pick up Christie's other novels featuring them. I did guess the ending which is unusual for me but still found it a satisfying read.

Tommy and Tuppence books are loads of fun to read. Their banter is seriously the best.

This book was so boringgg. I wasn’t invested in the characters or the plot. There was once scene that was put me on the edge of my seat and that’s it.

DID NOT FINISH

After reading no more than one-third of this book, I just couldn't bring myself to pick it up again. I'm a fan of Christie, but this was the first Tommy and Tuppence book I read. I didn't like Tommy, and the entire plot seemed farfetched. It could be that I was expecting a typical murder mystery, and the book didn't meet that expectation. I think I'll try another Tommy and Tuppence book that was written later in Christie's oeuvre.

Good book. The first Agatha Christie I've read since 9th grade. After reading only books from the 90's and 2000's last year, my goal is to be sure to read some older books in 2012.

Eerste boek dat we lazen voor de BoekHoek. Genoeg om over te praten gelukkig, maar ik weet dat er nog leukere boeken zijn geschreven door Christie dus geen 5 sterren.

I decided a few months ago that I wanted to read some of Christie's mysteries that I had not encountered before. A number of years ago I listened to most of the Hercule Poirot mysteries, but I had not read Miss Marple or Tuppence and Tommy.

Unfortunately it took me a few months to finish The Secret Adversary. I was listening to it and the CDs needed replaced. Then I ordered the Playaway from the library and never got to it. I finished the book by reading the large print version. All of this distracted me from the story.

It maybe because I read this piecemeal, but this was not my favorite Christie mystery. Some how I managed to figure out the bad guy before the book ended. However, for the most part, I enjoyed this and will read some more Christie very soon.

The Sinking of the Lusitania! A Plucky Heroine who is Not Interested in Romance! Spies! Bolsheviks! An American Millionaire! Amnesia!! If you like black & white films, this story will make you roll your eyes in that same pleasant way.
