Hmm. If you had asked me when I was halfway through, I'd have given it 5 stars. Intriguing premise. Some great, wry observations, especially from Eli, though I don't feel like typing a lot, so I'll write out this short one from Elizabeth: "How bad had the world become that even the artists were getting engaged?"
But then the parents took over the story. The long argument at the restaurant: Where did that come from? Why did it go on and on? Eli's mother and Elizabeth's mother talk in similar ways, but they are supposed to have very different backgrounds. And finally, Elizabeth's mother, who fancies herself superior and wanted to be a writer, thinks, "It reminded me of Henry and I." Acck!

Was hoping for a much more trans book! Found most of it kinda meh but the ending very moving

Didn’t draw me in at all. Interesting concept to explore fluidity of gender and sexuality, but was missing an actual storyline in my opinion. Felt like the author was trying to say something important but I wasn’t engaged enough to follow the nuances and depth of their goals.
